Session 9

I'm still plugging along on the project. I found out this week that our district is looking for a guinea pig to try using a NETS assessment that Atomic Learning created along with lessons to cover the NETS. It has an assessment and reports the results. It then links to "Lesson Accelerators" that teach the lessons through lessons that already created using different software. It is exactly what my project was--uuuggghhh. I told the Tech Coordinator for the district what my project was for this class and she was very interested in it. I am continuing to work on the tutorials but I can use Atomic Learning for the examples. I am excited about it because the district already purchased it and it is a great resource.

I do like Simple Assessment. The format was great and the questions were challenging. I didn't feel that they dumbed it down at all for Middle Schoolers. The program is free for schools but the sales guy does call at least every 2 weeks trying to sell more of what they have. I will now be able to tell him that the district already has something in place.

I'm off to ready your projects and give feedback. Thanks for everyone that wished me luck and congratulated me on the Marathon. It was quite an experience. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Would I do it again? hmm I am already getting the bug to get back out there and run. Have a good week.

  1. Hi Chris...got your post. As for the discipline issues, I'm not really sure. That is why once I pass out the surveys, I will see how important it is to parents. Then from there, I would consult with the staff as to what information they want to share with the parents. But the discipline is quite different per grade-level...so that will be a discussion just with the staff. Good luck with your project...stinks that your project is similar to the NETS assessment, but at least you are all on the same page :)

I was just playing with your website and I was wondering if it is possible to make it so you could repeat the words? I know I could go “back” and then “next” but I was wondering if there was an easier way for the students. What software did you use to create the lesson and quiz section? It is pretty cool.

I'm sure I could repeat the words a third time, but could you explain why? The inital intent of the first 30 words will be for assessment purposes only. Seeing that these are words that first-graders should know upon entering first-grade. Following the oral assessment phrase, students who are not fluent in the oral assessment will be assigned the practice activity on the computer. Then, they will volutarily proceed to the study and quiz portion. The software for the quiz is ADOBE FLASH. I apologize for the lack of clarify.
